Before the late Ferruccio founded the super car company bearing his name: Automobili Lamborghini SpA, we still admire today after almost 50 years he made a totally different four wheel machine … a tractor. In fact Ferruccio made his fortune building tractors for Italian farmers that lost their equipment to the army forces during World War II … once the war was over there was a massive shortage of farm tools in the area.

So Ferruccio used army surplus equipment left behind to build hard needed material for local farmers, it didn’t take too long for supplies to run out and in 1949 Ferruccio founded Lamborghini Trattori SpA in Cento, building tractors from the start up … and these became some of the most highly  regarded units available on the market.

By 1958 a total of 1,500 tractors per year left the factory, and Ferruccio Lamborghini was able to afford the best of the best on the automotive market, cars from the likes of Jaguar, Mercedes and Ferrari were no stranger to this Italian entrepreneur … he made a fortune in those days and ventured into another market … in 1963 he founded Automobili Lamborghini SpA … in 1972 he sold the tractor business to Same.

Today it might be less costly to buy a Lamborghini tractor instead of a Miura or Countach, naturally it will not be as fast … but it still is a Lamborghini you can drive … on a daily basis, Jay Leno talks about a totally restored model in this episode of Jay Leno’s Garage:

Bottom line it is still a Lamborghini, and I sure wouldn’t mind owning one …
